Today I have officially been in Brazil for a week! I have been absolutely loving it! After Miami, it was all smooth sailing airport wise. When I got to Brasilia I went through immigration and got to skip through customs. After that, I walked out and my family was right at the front waiting for me along with some of the Rotary club. I met all of them and then my family and I went back to their house. I got to Brasilia around 9AM so I took a quick shower, ate breakfast, and then my family took me on a mini tour of Brasilia. I have pictures of this along with other days but my phone is not working at the moment so I will post them later!
On Saturday there was a Rotary party at my host family's house and I got to meet most of the Rotary and some of the inbound exchange students. Everyone that I have meet so far has been so welcoming and kind, and it really has made my transition so smooth.
I started school on Tuesday. Getting enrolled into my school was hard though. There are three grades in high school here. Usually people my age (16) are in grade 2. At first though, they didn't know which grade to put me in, then they thought that I would have to go into grade 1. But then after that they said that I couldn't go there at all because my transcript wasn't translated into Portuguese. My host mom got it all figured out though and I ended up in grade 2. My first day was good! Everyone wanted to talk to the American, and the teachers here are so laid back. They love joking around with all of the students. School here is also different because I stay in the same classroom all day and the teachers are the ones that switch from classroom to classroom.
On Wednesday I got to leave school early because for the last two hours of school they have tests. Marcus, one of the coordinators told me to just go ahead and leave. Thursday I didn't have to go to school because everyone went on a field trip (there wasn't enough room for me). Today was one of the inbounds birthdays! Meggie is her name, and she is from Minnesota. I went out to eat with her and some of the inbounds, and then went back to her house for cake. I actually just got home.
I have been meaning to post on here for a couple of days, but there have been storms and the power (and wifi) have been really spotty. Yesterday we lost power for over 12 hours, and we lost it again for 3 or 4 hours. Hopefully from now on the power stays and it will be easier for me to post.
I think that is all for now, talk to you soon! (Next time I will try to post all of the pictures!!)
